Ethan Downs

Ethan Downs, Missions Team Leader

Ethan wanted to be a ninja when he was a kid. But now there is no stealth left in his blood. The guy is loud. And you know how most people go with something subtle for their first tattoo? Ethan got a big piece on his forearm. It has a banner with some scripture reference from Isaiah on it, but at first glance it sort of looks like “Satan.” A junior Building Science major, Ethan hails from the Queen City where he was homeschooled. (Only some of the stereotypes apply!) He had a hard time deciding on a “most embarrassing moment” because so much of his life is spent in embarrassing scenarios. It would be kind of like asking Def Leppard to name their most awesome moment.

Ethan is a great guy, though, who loves helping people. There’s just no getting around the fact that Ethan wants to make whatever is around him – people, groups, culture, whatever – better than before. He loves the gospel and the profound impact it has on our lives.

Other interesting things about Ethan?

  • His favorite book(s)? The Chronicles of Narnia series by C.S. Lewis.
  • He’s likes country favs Carrie Underwood, Nickel Creek, and Zac Brown Band.
  • He refuses to listen to the trash Ke$ha calls music.
  • He believes Anchorman is the greatest movie of all time.
  • The Exorcism of Emily Rose was his biggest waste of two hours.
  • He likes his pizza from Capone’s, and he understands completely that his disdain for coffee puts him in danger of eternal fire.
  • Given the choice of running, swimming, cycling, or sitting on the couch, Ethan will most likely pull on his running shoes.
  • When it comes to eating boogers, earwax, scabs, or toenails, boogers take the cake for being the grossest.

Ethan has been involved with BCM even since he transferred from CPCC in the Fall of 2010. He says what he likes about BCM is how real the people are, but he hopes to see BCM become “a massive outreach to the ASU campus, not just to see big numbers but to form real relationships.” As the Missions Team Leader, Ethan is responsible for leading the team that mobilizes students as missionaries, raises money to support student missions, and organizing mission projects with churches to reach the community around ASU.
