Tori Walters, Discipleship Team Co-Leader

Tori has no idea why she grew up with the nickname “Pookie,” but she did. She is an Elementary Education major from Winston-Salem now, but the young Pookie grew up with the dream of becoming a veterinarian. Wouldn’t it have been funny to see Tori’s most embarrassing moment? “A piece of paper stuck to my butt as I walked at my Beta Club induction in high school in front of a whole gym of people.” If you know Tori, you know she probably managed to even do that with grace! Tori is all smiles, but gets serious talking about faith and our mission to share it. For Tori, talk is cheap. Our lives are not so much about what we say we believe but what we show we believe. Let’s stop talking and start doing. Tori says she most identifies with Mary, the mother of Jesus. Not because of the mother part. Because of being surprised yet humbled whenever God decides to use her for his amazing purposes.

Tori’s fun facts:

  • Tori’s favorite book? To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
  • The greatest movie of all time comes down to a tie between The Sound of Music or Gone With the Wind.
  • You want find her quoting Napoleon Dynamite, because that movie was a waste of time.
  • She loathes Ke$ha, but adores Adele. She also likes the Goo Goo Dolls and The Civil Wars.
  • She drinks coffee from Espresso News, and she can’t wait for the new Mellow Mushroom to open.
  • With a choice between boogers, scabs, earwax and toenails, she would NEVER eat earwax.
  • Running, swimming, cycling, couch-sitting? She will be on the couch!
  • Favorite thing about Travis being president? “I love that he is able to love traditional things and embrace the freedom that comes with Christ.”

Tori got involved with BCM during her freshman year at App. She decided it was the place for her because she loves “our vision for the campus. I think it’s spot-on,” she says. When it comes to serving on our Leadership Team, Tori says, “I am so excited about using what the Lord has placed on my heart to try to get others excited about sharing the Gospel. I’m also super excited about the relationships that I will have the opportunity to form through this.” She longs to see the students of BCM “develop a love and passion for the lost people on our campus and in our world and act on that passion.” And as Discipleship Team Co-Leader, that’s exactly what she is responsible for doing alongside Callie.
