Travis Suits

Travis Suits, President

Travis accidentally farted in the second grade.  It was loud.  He was walking in a silent, single-file line.  The experience traumatized him, and he now gives off a pretty polished edge.  Sure, Travis is weird.  He likes Southern Gospel music.  We’d tell you the names of the groups he likes, but you wouldn’t know any of them.  He’s been a church Choir Director since he was a junior in high school.  He sang in his own Southern Gospel quartet, went to a Christian high school, and is from the uber-holy town of Trinity.  Travis happens to remember the most profoundly spiritual moments in his life by which necktie he was wearing.  Seriously.  We couldn’t make this stuff up.  But one of the first things you notice about Travis is, “This guy is for real.”  He loves Jesus…a lot.  He loves people…a lot – particularly people whose lives are in a mess.  And that’s because he resonates with them.  Travis is proof that you can look the part and still be a mess.  He’s walked through his share of mess, and he is a better guy because of meeting Jesus in the middle of it.  Currently, Travis is a junior history secondary education major, and he serves as the Music Director for Laurel Springs Baptist Church.

Some other interesting things about Travis:

  • Favorite Book(s): Static by Ron Martoia and The Relentless Tenderness of Jesus by Brennan Manning
  • Guaranteed to change the station if Eminem or Miley Cyrus are played.
  • Drinks coffee at Espresso News
  • Eats pizza at Capone’s
  • The Fugitive is his favorite movie of all time, and Nacho Libre was the biggest waste of two hours.
  • Would love to see mosquitoes become extinct.
  • Cycling, Running, Swimming, Sitting on the Couch?  He’s going with the couch.
  • Eating boogers, scabs, toenails, or earwax?  Eating toenails is the grossest.

Travis has been a part of BCM since his freshman year at App, and his favorite thing about BCM is our vision for missional living.  As President of BCM, in addition to sending out our weekly correspondence, leading our Leadership Team, and occasionally teaching on Tuesday nights, Travis is responsible for helping to bring solidarity to BCM under a unified vision.   You can email Travis at suitste@appstate.edu.
