Worship

The Greek word most often translated as worship in the Bible is proskuneo. It literally means, “to kiss toward.” It’s associated with adoration and a deep sense of reverence and submission. It’s an ancient word – a word that drips with history and artistic allusions. Proskuneo, the kiss, conjures all kinds of imagery in our minds. But it is always something we do to God. So much of our relationship with God is about what He does to us – calling, reshaping, resurrecting, reforming, purifying, disciplining, recreating. Yet this is our act. As followers of Jesus we respond to Him in this way. And when it is done right, it is as beautiful as a kiss.

At BCM we take worship seriously. Authentic. Creative. Vulnerable. Surprising. Powerful. Challenging. These are some of the things we believe make worship honoring to God. Worship is more than just singing some songs and hearing a message, so don’t expect that. BCM’s worship includes painting, drama, poetry, stories, music, dance, and all kinds of things that bring glory to Jesus. And in the midst of all that, God speaks when we open His Word. It’s not a show, and it doesn’t feel like it.

Proskuneo starts at 8:00 each Tuesday night in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Boone. The entrance is located right on King St. beside the playground.
